Your BookEnu portal, explained in five minutes
Your accountant has invited you to BookEnu. Here is what you can do there: send your paperwork from your phone, raise your own invoices, see who has paid and read messages from your accountant.
Create your account in three steps
There is nothing to install and nothing to pay. All you need is the invitation email from your accountant.
- 1
Open your invitation email
Your accountant sends it from BookEnu. Tap "Create Your Account". The link works for 7 days - if it has expired, ask your accountant to send a new one.
- 2
Choose a password
Your email is already filled in. Pick a password of at least 8 characters and tap "Create Account".
- 3
Sign in
Tap "Sign in" and enter your email and password. Next time, go straight to app.bookenu.com.
Four tabs, that's the whole portal
The menu sits at the bottom of the screen, right under your thumb. Tap a tab below to jump to that part of the guide.
- UploadSend receipts, invoices and bank statements.
- DocumentsSee what you have sent and how far along it is.
- InvoicesRaise invoices, email them and track who has paid.
- MessagesReminders and notes from your accountant.
- Settings (cog icon, top right)Your business, logo, bank details and invoice numbering.
Send receipts, invoices and bank statements
The Upload tab is where you start. On a phone you can photograph a receipt the moment you get it - no scanning, no saving it for later.
- 1
Open the Upload tab
On a phone, tap "Take photo" to use the camera or "Choose photos" to pick from your gallery. For PDFs and spreadsheets tap "Or upload files". On a computer, drag files into the box or click to choose them.
- 2
Say how to treat the files
"Separate documents" is right for most uploads - every file becomes its own document. Pick "One document" only when you photographed a single statement or invoice page by page.
- 3
Tap Upload
That is all. You do not need to say whether it is a receipt or an invoice - BookEnu works that out. Your accountant checks what you send before it goes into your books.
See what you have sent
The Documents tab lists everything you uploaded, newest first, with a status next to each one - so you never wonder whether something arrived.
- 1
Bookkeeping
Your receipts, invoices and bank statements. "Waiting for approval" means your accountant has not looked at it yet, "Processing" means it is being read, and "Processed" means it is done.
- 2
Other documents
Contracts, agreements, insurance, licences and letters. Tap "Add document", give it a name if you like, and upload. You can download these again at any time.
Raise and send your own invoices
Create a professional PDF invoice in a couple of minutes and email it straight to your customer. It reaches your accountant automatically - no need to upload it afterwards.
- 1
Tap "New invoice"
Pick a customer from your address book or add a new one on the spot - name, email and address are saved for next time.
- 2
Add the details and items
Set the invoice date and payment terms (for example "Within 30 days" - the due date is worked out for you), then add a line for each thing you are charging for. Totals update as you type.
- 3
Save, preview, then issue
"Save draft" keeps it private to you. "Preview PDF" shows exactly what your customer will get. When it is right, tap "Issue invoice" - it gets its invoice number and becomes visible to your accountant.
- 4
Send it
Tap "Send by email" to email the PDF to your customer, or "Download PDF" to send it your own way.
Keep track of who has paid
Every issued invoice shows whether it is Unpaid, Partial or Paid, so you can see at a glance who to chase.
- 1
Record a payment
Open the invoice, tap "Record a payment" and enter the amount, the method (cash, card or bank transfer) and the date. Part payments are fine - the invoice shows what is still outstanding.
- 2
Paid on the spot?
When you issue the invoice, tick "Mark as already paid" and it is issued as settled in full.
- 3
Find the ones still owed
On the Invoices tab, filter by "Unpaid" or "Partly paid", or search by customer name or invoice number. "By period" gives you totals by month and year.
Messages from your accountant
Deadline reminders, requests for missing paperwork and other notes from your accountant arrive in the Messages tab.
- 1
Look for the badge
A number on the Messages tab means you have something unread. Tap a message to open it.
- 2
Need to answer?
Messages are one-way for now, so reply to your accountant the way you normally would - by email or phone.
Set up your invoice details once
Tap the cog icon in the top-right corner. Five minutes here before your first invoice makes every invoice after it look right.
- 1
Business details
Your trading name and address, as they should appear on invoices (plus your VAT number if you are VAT-registered).
- 2
Logo
Upload a PNG or JPG up to 2 MB and it appears at the top of every invoice.
- 3
Bank details
Account name, sort code and account number are printed on the invoice so customers know where to pay you.
- 4
Invoice numbering
Keep the default (INV-2026-001, INV-2026-002...) or set your own pattern and starting number to carry on from your existing invoices.
Common questions from clients
Do I have to pay for BookEnu?
No. The portal is provided by your accountant as part of their service. You will never be asked for card details in the portal.
Do I need to install an app?
No. The portal runs in the browser on your phone, tablet or computer. For one-tap access on a phone, open it in your browser and use "Add to Home Screen" from the browser menu.
My invitation link does not work. What now?
Invitation links expire after 7 days and can be used once. Ask your accountant to send you a new invitation. If you already created your account, just sign in instead.
I forgot my password.
Password reset is not self-service yet. Contact your accountant, or email us at info@bookenu.com, and we will help you get back in.
Who can see my documents and invoices?
You and your accountant's practice. Each practice's data is kept separate from every other practice on BookEnu, and our privacy policy explains how we handle it.
What happens to a document after I upload it?
Your accountant approves it, BookEnu reads it (supplier, date, amounts, VAT) and your accountant reviews the result before it goes into your books. You can follow the status in the Documents tab.
I sent the wrong file. Can I delete it?
Receipts, invoices and bank statements cannot be deleted from the portal - tell your accountant and they will discard it. Files in "Other documents" can be removed while they still say "Waiting for approval".
I have a question about my tax, VAT or accounts.
Your accountant is the right person - BookEnu is the tool they use, and they know your business. For problems with the portal itself, email us.
Snap your first receipt
Sign in, tap Upload, take a photo. It takes less time than finding an envelope to keep it in.
